Respiratory and Women's HealthThe objective of this presentation is to discuss the care of the patient with a respiratory disorder during pregnancy and the postnatal period. After this session the participant will have a better understanding of the management of asthma, pneumonia and upper respiratory infections during pregnancy and the postpartum period. At the completion of this session the participant will be able to apply pharmacological principles for prescribing medication to care for respiratory conditions during pregnancy and the postnatal period.
Learning Objectives

Understanding Respiratory Disorders in Pregnancy: Gain comprehensive knowledge on the management of respiratory conditions such as asthma, pneumonia, and upper respiratory infections during pregnancy and the postnatal period, emphasizing the physiological changes and specific challenges these conditions present in pregnant patients.

Pharmacological Management and Safe Prescribing: Develop skills in applying pharmacological principles for prescribing medications safely and effectively for respiratory conditions in pregnant and postnatal women, considering the safety profiles of drugs and their impacts on both mother and fetus.
Learning Outcome Evaluation: Participants will state one thing they learned from the program and how they will implement it into their practice.
Speakers
Dr. Agruss is an Associate Professor at Rush University Medical Center, College of Nursing, Department of Community, Systems & Mental Health. She is the former Program Coordinator of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Rush University. She is currently faculty in the Family Nurse Practitioner Program. In that program she has taught and currently teaches many courses in the program: pharmacology, diagnostics, physical diagnosis history and examination and management of patients with acute and chronic conditions across the lifespan. Working within the Practitioner/Teacher role developed by her mentor, Dr. Luther Christman, she maintains a clinical practice. She has worked in the Native American Community, with the geriatric population and currently maintains her practice at Yorktown Health in Lombard, IL which provides woman’s health and primary care services. Over her professional career she has published in textbooks and journals about different topics in family practice and she has won both clinical and educational awards at Rush University. Dr. Agruss also currently serves as a site evaluator for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
