Cardiovascular Disease and Heart DiseaseHeart failure (HF) represents a significant burden on global healthcare systems, with increasing prevalence and mortality rates. Traditional therapies have provided symptomatic relief, but there remains a pressing need for interventions that not only improve symptoms but also reduce mortality and hospitalizations. Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, initially developed for type 2 diabetes management, have recently emerged as a promising therapeutic avenue for HF. This presentation aims to delve into the evolving landscape of SGLT2 inhibitors in the context of HF management. The mechanisms of action, including their effects on glucose metabolism, hemodynamics, and myocardial energetics. Additionally, we will examine the robust clinical evidence supporting their efficacy and safety profiles in HF patients.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the Mechanism of Action of SGLT2 Inhibitors
- Review the Clinical Evidence Supporting SGLT2 Inhibitors in Heart Failure
- Discuss the integration of SGLT2 Inhibitors into Clinical Practice for Heart Failure Management
Learning Outcome Evaluation: Participants will state one thing they learned from the program and how they will implement it into their practice.
