Overview

Integrating Universal Screening of ACESs into Well Child Visits: Is It Possible and What Could it Mean for the Community You Serve? - Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) that occur during childhood can have a significant impact on individuals as they grow into adulthood. These experiences can vary widely but often include abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual), neglect, household dysfunction (such as domestic violence, substance abuse, mental illness, or parental separation/divorce), and other forms of trauma. In this presentation, we will examine the impact that universal screening for ACEs might have on the health of your patients and their families.  Discuss how to create a workflow in your clinic to begin screening for ACEs, and build clinic buy-in.  Explore resiliency resources and discuss possible referral options to decrease the effects of ACEs, toxic stress, and risk of chronic disease throughout the lifespan.

Trauma Informed Care in Primary Care – How to Add to Practice - This presentation will describe trauma informed care (TIC) and briefly discuss the evolution of TIC, beginning with Felitti’s Kaiser Permanente work, highlighting important additions from a variety of specialties in practice. Emphasis will be given to explain why a universal approach to trauma is necessary to high quality patient care.
